Gudrun Johnston of The Shetland Trader had a contest on her blog to win a copy of her beautiful new book and the yarn to knit the Shoormal scarf with Quince and Co.’s Puffin– And I won! I have been dreaming about getting a hold of this since the first pictures of Laar (the cover sweater) began to appear, but I am completely blown away by how much more I love it all after seeing it in print. Gudrun has an amazing talent for blending the traditional with the contemporary and the result is 10 beautiful patterns, every one of which is something I must knit. While pictures online do give justice to the patterns, there is a whole other level of appreciation holding the book in your hands, everything about it is lovely, the size, the layout, the typography, it all feels very special. In a (further) bit of holiday magic, the yarn and book both arrived on Christmas eve, in time to wind the yarn before the long drive to Grandmother’s house Christmas day. The scarf was a very quick knit on big needles, the yarn is delicious, light, soft, squishy and warm. Just in time:
Over a foot of snow in the last 12 hours and it is still snowing. Immediately upon finishing Shoormal yesterday I cast on for Norie and finished that this morning… There is a road behind those trees, not that you can tell, we are snowed in! I think I will have to have to cast on for Shalder while I wait for the snow to stop.
